About Nicola's Fund
Nicola’s Fund was set up as a charity early 2006. Nicola Riley had discussed with her parents setting up a charity to help children going through the difficulties of coping with cancer, particularly children who were unable to travel long distances. This discussion took place in Florida 2004 where she enjoyed swimming with dolphins but was concerned about some of the friends she left at Alder Hey who were too ill to travel.
When Nicola passed away she left written instructions to use the money in her savings account to be used to start the charity. Debbie & Steve decided to fulfil her wishes and invited some close friends who were close to Nicola to join forces.
The charity is managed by a team of trustees who give their time freely and many other volunteers who roll their sleeves up and help set up the events. Every penny raised goes straight to the families we help with absolute minimum administration costs.
Our long term vision is to set up a retreat (similar to the one Nicola stayed in America).
Over the four and half years we have been operational we have helped 192 families
Since January 2010 we have helped 42 families , of which 22 have had a week at Centre Parcs, 18 have had a week at the Charities caravan in Porthmadog (North Wales) and 2 families have had a break at The Grovesnor Pulford Hotel & Spa.
